One of the most humbling examples the keyword analysis took place in the summer of 2005. As a super keen SEO Consultant Mr Sykes was task with generating organic search traffic for a company called Harrington Builders.

Harrington builders had offices in London and Surrey. After just over four months of hard seo grind, their website ranked #2 in Google for the keyword builders out of 208,000,000 competing webpages. Mr Sykes was quite rightly over the moon. The client was very impressed.

However after analysing keywords, looking at the content drill down, looking at the top entry pages and exit pages, and following the trail that led (or didn't) to a conversion, it soon became clear that not one user who ssearched for "builders" went on to make an enquiry.

The keywords that resulted in the conversion were builders Croydon and builders London.
